Vision

Our vision is to create a diverse STEM workforce that encompasses a culture of access, equity and inclusion for all individuals within the STEM fields.

Mission

The long-term objective of the MI-LSAMP Scholars Program emerges from the National Science Foundation’s vision to aid in the diversification of the nation’s science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of undergraduate STEM-related degrees earned by underrepresented minority (URM) students. Our personal goal is to increase the numbers of BIPOC students (Black/African American, Latinx, Indigenous, and other historically underrepresented racially minoritized students) attending and graduating with

baccalaureate degrees in STEM fields of study by creating a supportive community, offering holistic student support and providing access to resources on and off campus. The initiative focuses on student development and retention as a means to help achieve that goal, with an emphasis on transforming undergraduate STEM education through innovative, evidence-based recruitment and retention strategies, and relevant educational experiences in support of racial and ethnic groups historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines.
